Once an underused parking garage, the site sits between the Universität der Künste Berlin Bundesallee and the Berliner Festspiele theater. Its transformation reclaims a key urban corner in Charlottenburg, replacing car infrastructure with a cultural and residential hub that connects students, artists, and the public through open circulation and shared space.
The design introduces a mass timber structure that layers public and private functions to foster community and creative exchange. Artist housing, composed of 50-square-meter units, hovers above a green commercial plinth that blends retail, landscape, and pedestrian corridors. Below, four-bedroom student suites are organized with shared kitchens on the lower level and living spaces above, encouraging both privacy and social interaction. The building’s form emphasizes and opens its corners, drawing movement inward and activating the block’s interior with porous, community-oriented edges.
